SPARTAN GUARD

SWORN TO LOYALTY

The Spartans:
A Unique and Formidable Atlantean Nation

Undoubtedly, the Spartans, who comprise one of the many regions and kingdoms within Atlantis, stand out as one of the most unconventional Atlantean nations. As a modern warrior race inspired by the ancient principles of Sparta, they established the Spartan Kingdom and pledged their allegiance to Atlantis during the early days of the floating cities. This special bond has secured their place in Atlantean history.

With soldiers trained from childhood, the Spartans make up the core of the Emperor's personal imperial guard, known as the Spartan Guard. Sharing similarities with the Roman Praetorian Guard, they are duty-bound to protect the Emperor at all costs. Their unwavering loyalty and formidable combat skills set them apart as a unique and highly respected force within the Atlantean Empire.

With your Shield, or on it

Despite their admirable defense of Atlas XII during the founding of Atlantis, the intervening years until the reign of Atlas XIV saw some erosion of the Spartan Guard's traditions. This decline ultimately led to the tragic assassination of Atlas XIV the Great, along with numerous other world leaders, at the UN New York peace summit. Ironically, in spite of their motto "with your shield, or on it," all the Spartan Guard members present that day survived the calamity. This event marked a turning point, prompting the Spartans to reevaluate their commitment to their cherished traditions and the protection of their Emperor.

An unlikely alliance

Many believed that the intelligence failures leading to the assassination should have consigned the Spartan Guard to the annals of history. However, the newly crowned Emperor Athos chose to retain them, stipulating that they would be joined by the Midgardian Valkyrie, who had recently demonstrated their prowess and superiority in recent Pacific battles.

Although it would be a stretch to call the partnership between the Spartans and Valkyries a happy one, it would be unfair not to acknowledge its success. The conservative approach of the Spartans was complemented by the innovative and adaptive strategies of the Valkyries, resulting in a formidable alliance that strengthened the security of the Atlantean Empire.
